Today Jim Adams invites us to consider that our current state of the world will change and suggests the following prompt:
“This week we have the termination prompts of End/Finish/Over/Stop and I realize that most people are tired of being stuck inside, so this should be appropriate and hopefully this will work out for us.”
For this prompt, I am taking poetic license and stretching the prompt to reflect on looking into the positive and uplifting.
The songs that popped into my head when I read the prompt were rather down songs. Since I am all about “flipping the script” these days, I decided to do the same here.
New beginnings imply that something else has ended. I think we are all anxious to see an end to the virus and for our world to have a restart – a new and better beginning with an understanding we never had before.
The following song is one I became aware of only recently. “Shooting Star” by Owl City — a one person electronica project of musician Adam Young., is a fun let’s move forward kind of song. “Shooting Star” was co-written and co-produce with the Norwegian songwriting/producing team Stargate. Owl City developed a following back in the MySpace music days.
From Songfacts.com:
Young explained the meaning of the upbeat lyrical content to Billboard. “I wanted to sort of capture the idea that everybody can start a movement,” he said, “if we all unite and capture this sort of standing on the edge, ready to leap off kind of feeling, knowing that even though everyone has dark days, if we really work together we can make anything happen.”
Shooting Star
Lyrics from Lyricsbox.com
Close your tired eyes, relaxing them.
Count from 1 to 10 and open them.
All these heavy thoughts will try to weigh you down, but not this time.
Way up in the air, you’re finally free,
And you can stay up there, right next to me.
All this gravity will try to pull you down, but not this time.
When the sun goes down, and the lights burn out,
Then it’s time for you to shine.
Brighter than a shooting star, so shine no matter where you are.
Fill the darkest night, with a brilliant light,
Cause it’s time for you to shine.
Brighter than a shooting star, so shine no matter where you are, tonight.
Woah, woah, woah.
Brighter than a shooting star,
Shine no matter where you are, tonight.
Gaze into my eyes, when the fire starts,
And fan the flame so hot, it melt our hearts.
All the pouring rain, will try to put it out, but not this time.
Let your colours burn, and brightly burst,
Into a million sparks, but all dispersed
And illuminate a world, that’ll try to bring you down, but not this time.
A thousand heartbeats beat in time,
and makes this dark planet come alive.
So when the lights flicker out tonight, you gotta shine.
I remember this song and I enjoyed the video. Maybe if the pharmaceutical companies work together we can end this pandemic.

So few people seem to recognize them. I am glad it struck a familiar chord with someone.
