Day 269
I have been thinking a lot about our last SoCS prompt and how many of us wrote about being introverts. When I saw this quote by my beloved Rod McKuen, I knew it would be my One-Liner Wednesday post!
“Unless you call attention to your presence who will know you’re there?”
Maybe this is why we blog — to call attention to our thoughts and by so doing — bring attention to ourselves.
Why live small and retract from life when living large feels more extraordinary like walking the high wire.
Daring acts of courage — things that make you gasp for breath — aren’t those some of the moments we remember most? I always thought those feelings were fear, but what if they are exhilaration?
When doors open for us, it seems our nature to walk through cautiously. Why? Why not fling that door wide open and run throwing caution to the wind?
This brings to mind a favorite poem by Emily Dickinson:
I’m Nobody! Who are you?
I’m nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there’s a pair of us — don’t tell!
They’d banish — you know!
How dreary to be somebody!
How public like a frog
To tell one’s name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!
Ever heard this accusatory question — Just who do you think you are?
The next time that question floats into your universe, answer with GUSTO!
Ha! I’m me. In all my crazy, introverted, jumbled mix of beautiful humanness.
Curious what One-Liner Wednesday is all about? Here’s the link to get the scoop
Good ideas and thoughts prompted by you choice of one line, Maggie. 🙂
I agree that some of us blog to make people aware that we exist. The same reason that writers write, and film-makers make films, I suspect.
Putting our head up above the parapet of obscurity.
Best wishes, Pete.

Thank you, Pete. I suspect your thoughts about our existence rings true.
Your line “Putting our head up above the parapet of obscurity” is One Liner Wednesday worthy itself. Powerful words there, Pete.

Thanks, Maggie. Once that ‘head’ has appeared online, we can’t take it back. 🙂

Excellent post and exactly what I needed today! Flinging the doors wide open and claiming my new adventures! (The horses go perfectly with that idea!) And blogging is a comfortable way for me to say, I’m here! This is who I am.

Fling those doors wide, JoAnna! I think many of us find our voice through blogging.

I love the idea of flinging those doors open to new adventures! I’m a worrier and cautious by nature, but I’ve had many great experiences over the years by just saying yes to serendipity and ignoring the fear.

I love the idea of turning fear into exhilaration. As for the question, I wish I could summon the energy to answer with, “who am I? My but your ignorance is astounding.”

I think you should just go for it, Dan.

We all have our reasons to blog. Mine was to support my movement toward gratitude and away from sadness. It has accomplished what it was meant to do. the best thing about the blog is that it continues to be a connection with people I love.

I know I look for your blog before I retire for the evening. Often it is not there until I wake the next morning. I would miss our connection if you were not blogging.
