Rainy Days

Day 22

I don’t mind the rain. Especially the long steady moderate rain like we had overnight. I slept so well and honestly it was one of those mornings I could have stayed curled up in my blankets for hours. But, I had promised hubby we would go to the movies today and he was looking forward to it.

This rain was again courtesy of another hurricane. Hurricane Willa made landfall in Mexico and has left a large swath of rain in its wake. It is destined to transform into the first nor’easter of the season. Hopefully, people will be spared any further damage from this storm.

A Star is Born

IMG_7274We decided to go to an early matinee of “A Star is Born” with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. I was also excited because I have always loved Sam Elliott so this was a little cherry on top for me.

We drove up to Asheville to see the movie. We were thinking there would be very few people at the theatre at 12:30 pm on a Friday afternoon but I sometimes forget how many retirees live in and around Asheville.

Movie Pet Peeves

Let’s just go ahead and get my pet peeves out of the way, shall we?

  • Cost. Even paying senior prices, the tickets were $16. Then we shared a popcorn and a bottle of water which cost another $15.
  • Choosing Seats. I am not sure what started this trend but we had to select our seats when we bought the tickets. What is odd is that the theatre was no where near booked like we were led to believe.
  • Volume. The previews are the worst, but even most movies are just too loud for me. I would like to keep as much of my hearing as possible.

The Good Stuff

IMG_7278This was our first time at this theatre. We were surprised to see recliners with leatherette seats, built in cup holders and electric seat controls. If you so desired, you could lie down to watch the entire movie.

The movie was wonderful. Parts were way too loud for me but I wrote this off as part of the movie. All the actors were wonderful. Lady Gaga was amazing and brought me to tears several times.

It was a perfect way to spend a rainy day. Most of the rain has stopped now and there is a chill in the air. We only reached 46 degrees F today, so it feels very fall-like.

Coming Attractions

There were a few movies I am anxious to see. Mary Poppins Returns and “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” look good, but I  am on the fence about “Vice” and “The Mule”.

I am intrigued by “Rocketman”, the story of Elton John but first I need to figure out what the heck a fantasy-musical genre is. If it is truly his life story, I might like to see it.

All in all it was a good rainy day. This weekend is my silver jewelry workshop with Molly Sharp and I am really looking forward to it. I will see you back here tomorrow evening.
