Do You Remember – Family Cars?

This morning I was thinking about our family cars. I do not remember the make and model of many of them. I wish I could remember.

I have seen photos of the cars my parents had when I was too young to remember. I know my parents loved station wagons because they liked to camp in the back on trips to the Smoky Mountains.

The station wagon I remember had a rear-facing third seat. My brother and I often sat there, while our sisters sat in the second front-facing seat. No seatbelts of course! It horrifies me to think how disastrous a rear-end collision would have been.

We had an AMC Rambler. I think it was my dad’s attempt at a fixer second car. I think it was a ‘67 but I am not sure. I am pretty sure it had seatbelts so it was most likely 1966 or later. I wrote about that car before. You can read it here.

My dad was a Buick guy, I do know that. My parents bought a blue Buick Electra 225 when I was in high school. It was mom’s car and I remember it being a big deal that the car was in her name. I remember it feeling like a huge car to me. It was the car I drove when I was first learning to drive.

I remember so many of our cars having triangular vent windows, bench seats, clutch on the floor, push button radios, crank windows, and no A/C.

How about you? What do you remember about your family cars?
