A Writer’s Query About Food

I read an interesting article on the School Library Journal website entitled “The Top Ten Most Disappointing Edibles and Potables of Children’s Literature”. The concept of the article was determining the most disappointing foods ever featured in books people read as children. The article is a fun read – just click on the link above.

It made me wonder.

Do you feature food, specific dishes, meals, grocery stores, or restaurants in your writing?

If so, did you research the foods or pull from personal experience?

I am anxious to see your responses.

Angel of Music – #JusJoJan 2023

Welcome to day twenty of Just Jot It January for 2023. Today’s word is phantom.

Book Cover Phantom of the OperaIf I lived near New York City I would spent a lot of time (and money) on Broadway shows. If I was rich, of course it would not matter where I lived.

My favorite play of all is Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of Phantom of the Opera. I have always loved the story and the hint of history melded into it.

The Phantom of the Opera (Le Fantôme de l’Opéra)  was written by French author Gaston Leroux and published as a serial over a four month period in 1909 to 1910 before it was eventually published in its entirety.

The first Christmas hubby and I were married, he bought me tickets to see Phantom on Broadway. I cried so hard – I was overjoyed. The tickets were purchased in advance so when we went, it was freezing and I was so sick but it did not phase me one bit. I still went and enjoyed every minute. Well, except maybe the 36-block walk back to the hotel because we could not get a taxi.

I am such a fan. I have seen the 1925 movie starring Lon Chaney and I have the 2006 version on DVD. I have a copy of the book. In addition to Broadway I saw Phantom at the Wang Center in Boston and we took our grandson to see it at the Fox theater in Atlanta. Of course I have the CD box set of the music and even a Christmas ornament that plays the theme song.

Sadly, 2023 will be its farewell on Broadway. I told hubby we should take a trip to New York to see it one more time. He agreed so we shall see.
