SoCS – You Carry Yourself Well

Linda has given us another challenge for our stream of consciousness writing this morning. This is where you throw out the planning and just let the words flow. If you are curious what SoCS is all about, check out Linda’s post for all the details. Join the fun while you are there.

Today’s prompt is as follows:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “comp.” Find a word that starts with or contains “comp” and use it in your post. Enjoy!

Do you remember certain words and the first time you either heard them or heard them used effectively? Many words standout to me in this way. Maybe it is just one of my oddities.

I remember the first time I was I introduced to our new Vice President. She was impressive in her instincts. She had a knack for sensing a problem and quickly applying an effective solution.

I remember well one of her primary directives for our department. She insisted on professionalism and her expectations were not always welcome in some of the dark recesses where the good ole boy network had survived for so long.

In our first staff meeting. She expected us to all comport ourselves as the seasoned professionals we were. I remember glancing around the room and realizing some people did not get it. After the meeting, several people came and asked me what it meant to ‘comport’ themselves. (That reveals a lot when it would be so easy to look up the word themselves.)

It was a shakeup that never should have been required.

And now, because this is stream of consciousness after all, this song hit my internal jukebox when I read Linda’s prompt. I thought I would share a couple different versions for your pleasure.
