SoCS – Whatever

I took a couple of mental health days which for me meant no blogging and very little reading of blogs. Sometimes I need to cocoon and sort out my thoughts. Linda’s SoCS prompt is often a good way to dip my toe back in the water. If you are curious what SoCS is all about, check out Linda’s post for all the details.

Today’s prompt is as follows:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “whatever.” Use the word “whatever” any way you’d like. Bonus points if you start your post with it. Have fun!

“Whatever will be, will be”

This is the phrase, sung by Doris Day of course, that has taken up residence in my head this morning.

Yesterday would have been my sister’s 73rd birthday. I miss her terribly. Yesterday was also the day my daughter’s family made the difficult decision to say goodbye to their cat who was suffering from cancer.

When you live in a close family, you also develop a bond with your family’s pets. To be so far away and watch them go through this and try to help a four-year-old come to terms with this loss has been heartbreaking.

So many worries this week with people I love and care about. It’s harder when everything is out of our control. But that is life, isn’t it? We can go about our days feeling in control of everything, but then, one day, we realize we can only control so much.

Today I will spend my day drawing a picture of a beloved cat to help heal my little girl’s broken heart.

  1. Drawing a picture of the cat is a sweet way to help with the process of grieving and healing. I know about the loss of a sister. I miss mine too. I’m surprised I didn’t think of the Doris Day song, though the sentiment showed up. That song was meant for you, today. She had a soothing voice and loved the family pets, too. Sending hugs on angel wings.

        1. Oh, Willow! How difficult! There are times when everything seems to pile on at once and it feels as if we might smother. I am keeping you all in my prayers. I am sorry about your car. Does anyone have CCTV that might have captured it?

  2. Losing a pet is often a child’s first experience of death and it is devastating. I am glad for the drawing and for the ability she will have to mention her cat as often as she needs to in the future. My grandchildren are still missing the dog we lost last spring and mention her now and then. As for your sister–you know I feel that one intensely too.

    1. Thank you, Elizabeth. Yes, it is a grief we do share. Her parents love her tremendously so there is no questioning how much love she will get through this sad experience.

  3. It’s so hard to let a beloved pet go. I am grateful that we’re able to do that, easing them into special memories. And remembrances past — they bring weight to our memories, as we miss family members and friends who were lost too soon.
