MLMM Friday Music Challenge

This is Melanie’s maiden voyage running this music challenge. I cannot resist a good upbeat song so here we go!

There are so many songs with a great beat so I wanted to pick one that makes me want to get up and get moving! Katrina and the Waves definitely fits the bill.

When Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast, sadly this song and the band got caught up in the sadness strictly by name association. News outlets dubbed the coverage of the storm “Katrina and the Waves”. The lead singer, Katrina Leskanich was disappointed by the association and hoped the song would become an anthem for the Gulf Coast recovery.

Today I choose to remember it as the wonderful upbeat song that it truly is.

  1. The challenge is for an upbeat song? Okay, try this one. A wonderful British band called ‘Swing Out Sister’. It is about ‘Breaking Out’, and has a good beat.
(The singer is Corrinne Drewery. She has my all-time favourite hairstyle! A Loiuse Brooks bob.)

    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. I am sorry I didn’t comment at the time you shared this lovely music! I loved that song you chose, and I got to hear a lot of new music through your responders as well! Very nice. Thanks Maggie for participating! 😀
