SoCS – Internal Dialogue

Linda seems to have had a rainy Friday. I hope it was better than our rainy Thursday – we received almost five inches of rain in 24 hours.

Check out Linda’s blog if you want to join in – just check out the rules and the contribution of other bloggers.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “run.” Use it as a noun, a verb, use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

After reading Linda’s prompt I found myself having some interesting internal dialogue.

”Today, I’m going to run to Target.”

”Are you crazy?”

”No, i feel totally safe since yesterday was the end of my two week vaccination waiting period. I’ll still mask up of course.”

”Seriously? You are going to run to Target? I doubt that.”

”Yes. I know I still need to be careful because people are still going to run amuck with no masks.”

”There you go again. No one is running. They are walking or driving, but no one is running and that includes you.”

”Are you saying my grammar is lacking?”

”I don’t know. Look it up.”

“I can’t do that. I must write stream of consciousness. No research allowed.”

“Ok. Fair enough. So you are going to drive to Target, not run. Where you feel safer because of the vaccine.”

“Whatever. Yesterday our county opened up the vaccine to every age group. Lots of people have received their second shots. I wonder how many will run a fever like I did.”

”I give up.”

“I think you should chill out. Let’s have a cup of coffee. I wonder what time Target opens? I need to run by Costco and fill up my car.”

  1. I usually say ‘Pop’, or ‘Popping’. (Others in England do too.)
    “Might pop to Tesco later”.
“Just popping out to the shops, won’t be long”.
    ‘Run’ is used slightly differently.
“You’re driving all the way from Beetley to Scotland? That’s a long run”.
    Best wishes, Pete. 🙂

      1. We have a lot of that in London. Other areas of the country have their own versions. Travel to North-East England, and it’s like listening to a foreign language. 🙂

  2. Gotta love the voices in our heads. We’re still under a mask mandate here in CT. Target has been a regular stop. They have had an employee wiping down carts and baskets since this mess began a year ago. I give them a lot of credit for making us feel safe (although I’m not sure there was much danger from contact with surfaces).

    1. Our state still has a mask mandate, but South Carolina (our closest Target is across the state line) never has. They do seem to do a good job cleaning and I am wearing two masks when entering anyplace where people might be unmasked.

  3. Ha! Your post reminds me of a former boss who, when I said I was running out for lunch, would say, “Take the car instead. It’s easier.” I would give him “that look” and tell him how funny he was. I’m not running anywhere today unless Gibbs chases me around the apartment.

  4. We feel better about “running” to places again since we’re now almost a month past 2nd vaccine. Still masking it up but with an extra layer of peace of mind. First time since this whole thing started that we ate inside a restaurant. It helped that we went at 7:15 am and were the only two customers in the place.

      1. It was a surreal experience. Our original intention was to eat on the patio but they were still sanitizing the outdoor area. If we’d not been alone, we may have taken a to-go to the car.

  5. I feel better about all the conversations I have in my head. So many thoughts! I also feel a little safer going to the store, but glad we’re still wearing masks for now.

  6. Still masking up in California, at least my part of it. I’m coming into peak immunity but not letting my guard down just yet.
