Okay, folks i was digging around today. If the ability to signin with WP-Admin has been stripped away thereby losing the classic editor, you will want to check this out.
When logged into WordPress, click on your photo at the top right of the screen. You will then be asked to provide a verification code which WordPress will send to you.
Type in the verification code to get to your WordPress profile.
Now click on Account Settings.
Now click the button that says Dashboard appearance, turning it from gray to blue (in my case).
Now click the box that says ‘Save Interface Settings’.
For me, this has given me access to the WP-Admin dashboard again and the ability to choose the classic editor for new posts.
NOTE: You may need to add /wp-admin to your URL. For me that would be:
fromcavewalls.wordpress.com/wp-admin
Fingers crossed it works for you, too. 🤞🏼 And that WordPress doesn’t disable this, too.
Thanks for the tip, Maggie. I will bookmark this post.
Best wishes, Pete.

Thanks Maggie. I was seriously wondering if blogging was not going to be a part of my life anymore.

Did you lose WP-Admin overnight, too?

It’s still there but I haven’t accessed it. I am worried about block editor, a lot.

You will master it if need be.

I don’t know of that capability is in the app, but let’s hope it is!

Well done! I got to terms with the block editor gradually as it appeared, but it was a long time before I could do what I wanted without recourse to the Classic block. And now that list is so… full! It’s always handy to know where to find work-arounds. Maybe for the next ‘improvement’ they can come up with something less rigid and more configurable by the individual blogger.

Cathy, that was always the beauty of WordPress. You could do what you needed within the parameters of the software. Taking that ability away seems far removed from their original intent.

Okay I tried what you suggested and it seemed to have worked just right! Thanks so much! 🙂

Well done. With the encouragement of a number of readers I did make the transition to the Block Editor and am doing fine. I am glad that you can continue with the system that works for you.

I am sure one day I will tackle the block editor, but there are valuable bloggers in our community who may not. Then add the problems with mobile platforms and it becomes ridiculously frustrating.

I agree about that.

I can still access the Classic Editor via WP-Admin but bookmarked your sugggestion just in case it shopuld suddendly disappear. Many thanks.
PS: I used for a couple of months the Block Editor and found it terrible, counterintuitive requiring much more time than the classic for the same end result.

I agree. I understand the origins and desire to have the block editor, but I dislike the fact that it ignores so many bloggers who simply want a straightforward approach. It makes a simple process way too complicated.

Thank you! I really have little time in my schedule for WP as it is, and zero for learning block editor (I’ve had to move west to a new time zone, just to pick up a couple hours) and really appreciate the help, clinging to classic editor, cheers!

I am glad it worked for you, Robert. I will eventually take on the block editor, but today is not that day!

Thank you thank you thank you! I’m still considering moving my blog though since WordPress seems to be hell bent on messing this up for those of us who don’t want to use the block editor!

You are welcome! We are all dreading the block editor so any time you can delay it, the better. I am glad it worked for you.

Reblogged this on Writing Wrinkles and commented:
Another workaround for the Classic editor on WP, in case beetleypete’s doesn’t work for you. It seems that people get updates at different times and even then don’t seem to have the sme interface… so if you’re struggling with the Block Editor, I hope one of these works for you , till you have time to get to know it better (by which time it will probably have ‘updated’ again)

Thank you for reblogging. I hope it helps those who feel stuck with the block editor. All we want to do is write.
