Monday Missive – Spring is Here!

I cannot tell you how excited I am that spring has arrived. It looks to be a gorgeous, sunshine-filled day and time to seriously look at lining up spring chores.

  • First of all – the BIG news in my family. Last week my daughter her wife and their daughter went to court – virtually – to finalize my daughter’s adoption of her own child. Thankfully it all went well, our granddaughter wanted to wear her magician’s outfit and although she was shy, she was so happy to hear the judge tell them they will always be a family. It was an emotional day for all of us, but I am forever thankful the worry is over.
  • I have a bit of the spring cleaning bug. I feel like the dust that settled post-2020 is heavier than in previous years.
  • Our seed potatoes have arrived which means I will drive up to Asheville to pick them up then we will attempt planting small container garden potatoes for the first time.
  • Our forsythia is in bloom although it looks like it needs to be cut back severely this year. The early yellow-tinged blossoms blooms of dogwoods have made an appearance as have the first buds on our redbud trees. All my irises are also making their way through the ground. Spring is definitely here.
  • Last week we had 3.5 inches of rain over a period of 48 hours. We had predictions of possible tornados based on the storm that swept through the southeastern states, but thankfully the storm lost much of its power before reaching us.
  • This coming Friday will mark the end of our two-week post final vaccination waiting period. We do not plan to go crazy, but we do intend to see a few friends and family for the first time in a long-long time.
  • Hubby has contractors coming out to give us quotes for pouring a concrete slab for a metal building/workshop for him. I never realized how much was involved in pouring concrete!

That’s about it for my quick Monday rundown. Stay safe, get your vaccine when you can, and don’t let your guard down. Have a great week!

  1. Having to adopt your own daughter rates as one of the craziest things I have ever heard. But I am exceptionally pleased that it is all over, and they can get on with being a family now. Please pass on my sincerest best wishes to them, Maggie.

  2. It’s sunny, kinda warm, and all the snow is gone here, but on the news we were told that we get 20% of our snowfall after March. Boo. But the farmers need some precip.
