Honeysuckle
Summer rain
Sassafras tea
A freshly snapped green bean
It’s sprinkling
Now raining
A storm is coming
Quick, get inside
Hotcakes
Buttered biscuits
A skeleton of fish bones
Draped across my plate
Crickets
Lightening bugs
A too close hummingbird
Sent chills down my back
Stars
Moonbeams
Contrails whisked strangers
Across my sacred sky
I was there
Then gone
In a contrail of my own
Close my eyes, I’m back again
I have never had sassafras tea, and don’t think I want to try it, even though I don’t know what it is. But the writing was delightful, and full of imagery.
Best wishes, Pete.

Pete, as children, we used sassafras tea as ‘witches brew’ for our Halloween parties. You had to drink a bit of the tea to gain admittance. Unsweetened it is less that palatable in my opinion! I am glad you could connect with the imagery.

I especially enjoyed the sound of the green bean. It momentarily transported me to summer.

We could string and snap green beans with our eyes closed. The smell is the greenest smell!

I was happy to get them several times last summer from our CSA bag.

We have Honeysuckle in a corner of our back yard. At some point, we will notice the smell in the morning. Then we know spring is firm.
