Welcome to a rainy and foggy Monday in the foothills of North Carolina. The fog has the mountains well hidden this morning and the earlier rain has given way to an occasional drizzle.
- Today we celebrate the 8th wedding anniversary of my daughter and her wife. It has been fun re-living the event through photographs and shared memories. Considering all the hurdles thrown at them, they are happy and building on a very solid foundation of which I am very proud.
- I started my morning by an early run to Costco scheduled so I could arrive and shop during senior hours. I think the rain may have discouraged more people from being there because it was not at all crowded. No line at the check-out. I was in and out in under an hour.
- We had another gorgeous although pastel sunset the other night which often happens when the cloud cover is just right. It reminded me we are only 54 days away from spring.
- Remember my disaster of pizza rolls I attempted to make? Well, while not pizza rolls, I did find a lovely recipe for pepperoni bites that turned out great. As with all recipes, I tweak and add filling and spices, but at least the dough had a beautiful rise this time!
- I decided not to take the Monday art class again today. It was not quite what I expected and I did not get a good vibe from the class. Since there was no instruction per se, I can simply draw on my own with the same result and save another 2 hours of Zoom time.
- The pine siskins are back at the feeder. If we have four feeders out, they will cover them all. They do not seem to care for meal worms, but anything else is fair game. They are very aggressive to other siskins, but they do not seem to be with other birds. The cardinals do not like all the fluttering around the feeders, but the bluebirds will plow their way in to get their share.
- We have completed the survey to get our Covid vaccination, but there are no appointments yet available. I check every day and hope our number will come up soon.
- I am doing well tempering my time reading the news and scrolling through social media now that the inauguration is over. It has been good for me.
- It’s predicted to be 72° F (22° C) tomorrow with lows back in the mid 20° F range Thursday and Friday. What crazy weather.
- Have a great week everyone.
72 F, in January? Crazy weather indeed. It was -4C here this morning, and only rose to 2C before sunset.
My congratulations to Melissa and her wife. Hoping for a happy lifetime of anniversaries to come.
Best wishes, Pete.

It’s rainy and a little colder than expected on my side of the mountains too (Tennessee). We don’t have the fog though and our rain is coming down in bucketfuls off and on. What does the pine siskin look like?

Thankfully, our rain is just a good healthy rain. It continues off and on although it is still foggy. Here’s a pic of an adult male Siskin. They look very similar to a winter goldfinch with very little yellow. (Photo courtesy of Merlin Bird ID)

It rained all night with howling winds. Now overcast but no rain. I am thankful for the rain. Much colder here than where you are today.

We had our share of thunderstorms overnight. I am not sure we will reach the temperatures they projected

Lovely photos and rolls!! I so enjoyed your posted pics of the wedding. I only have one framed photo!! Why, I wonder, is that? Guess I need to put in a request??!! Lol….anyone know where I could get some? Lol. Actually, I’m sure I had an online link to the album, but with my scatterbrained computer issues, who knows where that is!?
Miss you. I think we need a call this week while we stay inside observing our snow! More coming tomorrow…..brrrrr.

Still jealous about the snow! I don’t have any pics other than what we’re framed for me. I acquire them elsewhere! Yes, let’s chat soon!

Y’all are going to be warmer in NC than we are in CA. We are almost finished with this winter storm track – expecting more rain by Thursday/Friday – with temps somewhere in the high 50s to low 60s. Then it looks like we’ll get back to more typical SoCal weather.
Our weekly grocery run is tomorrow, to Trader Joe’s. Seeing if I can get in between lines.

Hopefully your rain is the good nurturing rain and not the flooding type. We rarely go to Trader Joe’s as it is an hour’s drive from where we live.

Happy Anniversary to them both! Beautiful pictures. I love North Caroline. I’m in SW Missouri and we experienced some pleasant behavior (and I’m finding it in general, like you, now that the inauguration is over). But like normal, the temps are going up and down and I’m awaiting the sunshine again. The weather decided to become extreme across the states again I heard.

We never reached our anticipated highs yesterday and this week we will have much cooler weather. I just keep counting down the days until spring.

Good morning. Yes, I woke to about 2 inches of snow and I’m counting down with you!

I would not mind a few inches, but more than that, not on my wish list.

Was that from the same King Arthur flour? Well done either way. Your daughter has passed the seven year itch! Well done to those two. Here it is 20. Pretty seasonal after a long spell of above seasonal temperatures.

It was King Arthur flour, but not the 00 flour. It is chilly here today and will be the remainder of the coming week.

I just saw it wont get above 19 on Friday. Ugh. Did you try the pizza flour again?

Not yet, but soon. Darren told me that made pizza twists with the dough and they were wonderful.

I look forward to hearing if it turns out for you too.

You also flung a craving on me for some of that bread!

Thank you for the good wishes. They have created a warm and loving home together. Those pepperoni bites were so good and so fattening!
