30 Day Film Challenge/Day 21

Today the challenge is a film that made me want to fall in love.

There are a lot of romantic movies out there. Wonderful old black and white classics as well as some more contemporary films are easy to find. There are romantic movies with tragic endings and movies of unrequieted love. Of course a good romantic movie can make you laugh (When Harry Met Sally) or might make you cry (Love Story) but they do not make me want to fall in love.

Innocent love for me is the purest of love. The kind where love is the anchor of everything and it makes the entire world delightful. So, for this category I chose “Benny and Joon” starring a very young Johnny Depp and the lovely Mary Stuart Masterson. It depicts the love worth fighting for even when the world tells you how incapable you are at loving.

I decided to take on this challenge for July after reading about it from SandmanJazz. Check out his blog and his entry for the twenty-first day of the challenge. Maybe even join in!

  1. Thanks for reminding how good Benny and Joon is.
I have to go back a long way to think of a film that impressed me as a youngster, making me think about the idea of falling in love. Despite its theme of adultery, I thought ‘Brief Encounter’ really spoke to me about love. The film was made in 1945, but I saw it much later, when I was around 12 years old.

    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. Benny and Joon is such a favorite of mine. Glad to see other people like it as well. I saw Brief Encounter years ago, I think, but do not remember the storyline very well. It is definitely a love story, Pete.

  2. First thanks for the advice to call Apple. I am currently listening to classical music waiting to see why my Mac keeps going to sleep like the Sleeping Beauty and refuses to wake up. Maybe I need a romantic movie about a Mac and a McPrince. I second “Brief Encounter” which I just watched after learning about it from Pete.

    1. I hope they help you resolve the problem. My iPad issue seemed to be related to the new version of iOS. I may need to watch Brief Encounter again. It has been a long time.

  3. If falling in love involves a warm feeling then I nominate the Summer of 42 as a movie that makes me want to fall in love. Every time I watch it, I feel that warm glow. Every time I see Jennifer O’Neal in anything, I think of her in the Summer of 42. The photography, the music, the perfect ending.

    1. Don, I came very close to using that movie. It is a classic love/coming of age story. And the music is beautiful. I wager few people know this movie much anymore. I rewatched it recently.
