Song Lyric Sunday – Little Old Lady from Pasadena

Jim asked us to consider size this week as we all know the idea that ‘one size fits all’ is a myth! The prompt for today:

This week we have size prompts using the following words Big / Large / Little / Small / Tall / Tiny and hopefully this will fit everyone.

This week we go back to California, but this time I am featuring Jan and Dean. The song “The Little Old Lady from Pasadena” was written by Don Altfeld, Jan Berry, and Roger Christian and recorded by Jan and Dean. The song was released on June 8, 1964, reaching #3 on the Billboard Top 100 chart.

And now for the chicken and the egg question. Kathryn Minner appeared in commercials for a local Dodge car dealership from 1964 to 1969. She drove a modified Dodge and ended the commercial with the tag line “Put a Dodge in your garage honeeeey”. She became synonymous with “The Little Old Lady from Pasadena” and appeared on the cover of Jan and Dean’s album of the same name. I searched for video of one of the commercials but nada, but at Amazon you can see her photo on the cover and can buy the vinyl for about $75.

Jan and Dean re-wrote the lyrics in 1967and renamed it “The Little old Lady from Tijuana” which is said to be drug related.

The Little Old Lady from Pasadena
Lyrics from Lyricsmode.com

It’s the little old lady from Pasadena

The little old lady from Pasadena
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!)
Has a pretty little flower bed of white gardenias
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!)
But parked in a rickety old garage
Is a brand new, shiny red, super-stock Dodge!

And everybody’s saying that there’s nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She’s the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It’s the little old lady from Pasadena

If you see her on the street, don’t try to choose her
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!)
You might grab a door, but you’ll never lose her!
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!)
She’s gonna get a ticket now, sooner or later
‘Cause she can’t keep her foot off the accelerator!

And everybody’s saying that there’s nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She’s the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It’s the little old lady from Pasadena

(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!)
(Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!)
The guys come to race her from miles around
But she’ll give ’em a length, then she’ll shut ’em down

And everybody’s saying that there’s nobody meaner
Than the little old lady from Pasadena
She drives real fast and she drives real hard
She’s the terror of Colorado Boulevard
It’s the little old lady from Pasadena

Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!
Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!
Go granny, go granny, go granny, go!
