Linda Hill’s suggestion for keeping up with our lives in these turbulent times has been a godsend to me. I can scarcely tell one day from another which was exactly her point in suggesting What Day Is It Anyway posts.

First things first. We walked away from the house purchase. We got into a money impasse with the sellers. The big issue was that the house exceeded EPA guidelines for radon. The occurrence of radon is not unusual in this part of the country and many homes have radon mitigation systems. Unfortunately, the sellers would not pay for the mitigation or other big ticket items discovered during the inspection, so we walked away. We did make sure they were aware because now they are required by law to disclose it to potential buyers.

Yesterday we took advantage of a warm spring day and did a little gardening. We cleaned out our raised beds and planted some tomato plants. It may be too early, but it sure did make me feel good to do something more productive and a little uplifting. I repotted my dill and chives and planted some cilantro as well. Today I hope to plant some radish seeds while it is still fairly cool and see if they survive. I think I have peas somewhere, too!

I also cleaned out the pots where we planted asparagus. I found tiny new shoots. This is year three, so I should get some asparagus large enough to eat this year. While I had some energy, I also decided to rake all the leaves away from our mums so they didn’t choke out the new growth. I waited too late to cut back my hydrangea and they are going to be very leggy this year.

The carpenter bees are out in full force. We do not spray for them anymore. Insecticide kills too much and is too far reaching.

That’s it for now. At least I know what day it is now.
