SoCS – Terra Firma

It’s time for another edition of Stream of Consciousness Saturday. Our generous host, Linda Hill, has given us this prompt:

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ground.” Use it as a noun or a verb in any tense (i.e. grind). Have fun!

Today is all about the terra firma –  ground.

It’s Saturday morning and the first thing I am going to do is grind some good ole’ Kona coffee beans – decaf of course! It’s a nice way to start the day or else I would never be able to hit the ground running.

Last night I was FaceTiming with my almost-10-year-old granddaughter. She sent me a text of 20 ground-breaking videos she made with some video app she has on her phone. Well, she thinks they are ground-breaking at least! As her grandmother, I think they are cute.

Switching gears here – did you ever get grounded as a kid? I hear most children say on restriction these days, but I am not sure it means the same thing. It only happened to me once and I blame it fully on my sister. I was with some friends in the neighborhood and my good friend Cindy and I went to see a make-shift cabin two of the neighborhood boys built in the treed lot beside one of their houses. It was nearing dusk and we decided it was time to high tail it home. A car turned the corner and my friend said, “Is that your mom’s car?” I laughed and said, “No, her car doesn’t have sidelights.” Ha. I was wrong. My parents never gave me a curfew and I never abused it. This night my sister got my mom worked up and kept asking her “what would the neighbors think?” about me being out after dark with boys. It’s funny to think about it now. It was all perfectly innocent. That was my one and only experience with being grounded.

I like being retired. I do not have a daily grind any more — except for that coffee I talked about earlier. I do not miss it. I think grind implies the work might be tedious or boring. My profession was never boring. But I still don’t miss getting up and going to work every day.

I think I should stop here before I run this blog post into the ground. My mind is running wild and not well-grounded in thought. More coffee please.
