It was just after midnight. Taking a shower had never been so difficult. I could barely hold my arms up to wash my hair. I was dizzy and felt like I might fall. I heard that old familiar sound of my heart pounding in my ears and I was short of breath. It wasn’t safe for me to be in the shower. I knew what this was as I had just been in the hospital four days ago getting two blood transfusions due to a dangerously low hemoglobin level rendering me severely anemic. It was happening all over again. I knew now what my body did when my iron levels dropped and I saw the signs.
