Song Lyric Sunday – The Commodores

Day 358

The prompt today is for a song around the prompt Floor/ House/ Roof/ Walls.

My choice this week is classic funk. One that might offend some people as it might be considered misogynistic because of its reference to a woman’s figure. It is definitely a song that appears in all my playlists.

This Commodores song is sung by drummer Walter “Clyde” Orange rather than Lionel Richie. According to Wikipedia, all of the group were credited as co-writers and Shirley Hannah-King (wife of band member William King) uncredited.

Almost every stanza in the songs appear as misheard lyrics.

Here for your listening pleasure.

Ow, she’s a brick house
She’s mighty-mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out
She’s a brick house
That lady’s stacked and that’s a fact
Ain’t holding nothing back

Ow, she’s a brick house
Well put-together, everybody knows
This is how the story goes
She knows she got everything
That a woman needs to get a man, yeah, yeah
How can she lose with the stuff she use
Thirty-six, twenty-four, thirty-six oh what a winning hand
‘Cause she’s a brick house
She’s mighty-mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out
She’s a brick house
Ow, that lady stacked and that’s a fact
Ain’t holding nothing back
Ow, she’s a brick house
Yeah, she’s the one, the only one, built like an amazon
The clothes she wears, her sexy ways
Make an old man wish for younger days, yeah, yeah
She knows she’s built and knows how to please
Sure enough to knock a strong man to his knees
‘Cause she’s a brick house
Yeah, she’s mighty mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out
She’s a brick house
The lady’s stacked and that’s a fact
Ain’t holding nothing back
Shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down now
Brick house
Yeah, she’s mighty mighty, just lettin’ it all hang out
She’s a brick house
Yeah, she’s the one, the only one, built like an amazon, yeah
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it, shake it
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down now
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it
Ow, a brick house

  1. I think the lyrics stay respectful and are appreciative more than anything. This song is an eternal hit and danceable to the nth degree. Great choice!

  2. I love this song so much (I especially loved it in my brick house days!). Now I just need someone to write “She’s a wiggly house” so I can relate once again! HAHA. ❤

  3. I laughed at the lyrics! My mom is really great at rewriting songs, this one included, apparently everyone I know whom has sung this song as well! Thanks for sharing!
