Day 265
Welcome to the stream of consciousness that is swirling in my head early on a Saturday morning. Linda’s prompt this week is:
Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “social.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!
Toothy is not comfortable in social situations. He is judged harshly.
When I visit my son and his family, I stay in the downstairs bedroom. It is the only bedroom on the first floor.
My grandson never wanted me to be lonely, but at 6 years old, he was never enthusiastic about giving up on of his prized stuffed animals to keep Grandma company at night. But he did not want me to be lonely.
Enter Toothy.
Toothy is socially awkward, misunderstood, and a bit of a loner. He doesn’t hang out with the rest of the gang. As a matter of fact, he hangs out in the guest room all the time — even when there are no guests. I am the only one that is comfortable sleeping with him on the bed with me.
You see, Toothy has a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde personality. When he shows his personality, it can be upsetting to those that do not know he is a bit of a marshmallow inside his rather rough demeanor.
I’m not real sure about his background or his upbringing. Maybe he was never invited to many social activities so he never learned to be socially aware. He misses social cues and reacts in a rather strange way when overly excited.
Regardless, Toothy and I have become pals over the years. We have an understanding.
I’m not terribly socially adept in all situations, so maybe I just understand him in a way that other people cannot.
So, Toothy, I’m going home today. Try to put the brakes on that overzealous personality of yours. There are a lot of potential friends hanging out upstairs. You just need to learn a little polish in social situations.
See you next time, my furry friend.
Are you also a bit socially awkward? That’s okay. You can still play in Linda’s SoCS sandbox. Just click this link to check out Linda’s post for all the rules. Make sure you take the time to read what everyone else had to say about this prompt.
Toothy looks great! I like how he hides that side of his ‘personality’. 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Yes, he hides it well.

I tried to see if I could buy one for our grandson, but cannot find them for sale here. 🙂

I’m not sure where he originated. He may be a character off a TV show. If I find out, I will let you know.

Thanks very much, Maggie. I found it on the UK site too! It is more expensive here, but with free shipping it comes to exactly the same. Saved to my wish list! 🙂
I also found some others, including a dog, Sammy Suckerpunch. As we have no raccoons here, that might be better.

My wife won’t let me buy one. She says there too scary! 🙂

I did not buy that one, Pete, but my grandson does not seem to find it scary.
I can see how it would seem so, though.

I think it is her that is scared of it. 🙂

Ha! That’s a possibility I never considered.

Toothy is quite the Jeckyl/Hyde combo. I like him. I’m glad you don’t have to deal with the things that go bump in the night.

Dan, he took careful watch over me. He really is a kind little guy.

We never know what hides inside others. Usually there is good and bad. Glad you have the wisdom and kindness to see the good.

I feel VERY socially awkward. People tell me I’m not which makes me wonder how I got to be such a good actress…
Truthfully? Toothy kinda freaks me out. I’m not sure how he got approved for a child’s stuffed animal design… 😳

I get that, too. It’s almost an out of body experience.
I’m not sure of the history of Toothy. He may be from some TV show or movie. I’m not up on all the current shows for sure. My grandson seems to find him funny, so I guess he doesn’t bother him.

Oh, dear…that’s a toothy character for sure. Creepy cute…!? Your grandson must be super proud of you being able to sleep with Toothy! PS – I’m socially awkward too, makes it easy to be quirky, though.

Toothy is a character for sure. My grandson likes the ‘surprise’ of his other side. I do think quirky and socially awkward go nicely together.
