Day 224
Before the services yesterday, we went to have our blood drawn for our checkup. Last November we started on a path of healthier eating and exercise. Today we went back for the results.
Last November, the doctor bet me that when I came back in six months, he would be putting me on statins for my cholesterol. I hate it when people bet against my determination. So, together we made some changes. Not dieting, just eating smart.
The doctor was shocked at how improved all our numbers were. I reminded him that he bet against me. He said he was really surprised, but he guessed he lost the bet.
So, we decided today we needed a little reward, so we headed up to The Biltmore Estate to have some ice cream. Yes, we indulged. The truth is we will never go back to our old way of eating. It has been a lifestyle change. Heck, I even got my husband to eat spaghetti squash and he liked it! No easy task there, I tell ya.
So, I had a scoop of pistachio ice cream and a scoop of banana pudding ice cream. Odd combination, I know, but it was delicious.
After we had our ice cream, we stopped and picked up a map of the hiking trails on the property so we can plan a day to go up for a hike and a picnic. We strolled around for a bit while I snapped a few pics of the flowers, then we headed to the WNC Farmer’s Market.
We were able to buy our first Grainger County, TN tomatoes. It will be a while before ours are ready. There is NOTHING like a home grown tomato. Grainger county in well known for their tomatoes and even have an annual festival to celebrate that fact!
Now I have had my treat and tonight we had a nice salad with grilled chicken, fresh dill from the garden, and some Grainger county tomatoes. It was wonderful.
Tomorrow, things start to get back to normal if there is such a thing.
