Decisiveness

Day 42

Yesterday I was struggling with making a decision about joining a writing group. Some very dear people took the time to read and comment and inspire me along the way. I do not know why I question myself so much and as someone said, I have everything to gain and not to worry about what I have to lose. I love my tribe.

Positivity

I generally am a glass-half-full person. Especially when it comes to the generalities of life. I like to be positive and I know spending too much time around negative people can really bring you down. If that rings true for other people we spend time with, it only stands to reason that our own negativity has a less than positive impact on us as well.

BlackBearI gave the writing workshop a lot of thought today. My husband and I had a full day and took some time to go out and have breakfast together (which we rarely do). We love the lattes at the Black Bear Coffee Company so it was a perfect choice. The endless days of rain have finally stopped so it was a nice day to get out.

Sometimes if we simply stop thinking so hard about things and let them flow naturally, they do not seem so overwhelming.

Decision Made

At the end of the day, I realized I was putting a lot of pressure on myself to fit the writing workshops into my very busy schedule. There was absolutely no reason to do so. I’ve also put a lot of pressure on myself to finish NaNoWriMo, so adding more pressure seemed silly. Funny how a new day, a good cup of coffee and a little sunshine gives one a totally different perspective on things.

I have decided to put my energy into NaNoWriMo. I really want to reach the 50,000-word goal this year. Thanksgiving is next week and I will have a full week after to just dive into the finish. That appeals to me.

I will join a writing group. But first, I will investigate other groups and see what fits. I also want to see when the membership period runs. It makes no sense to join now and do nothing with it if the membership is a calendar year period. I did that last year with another group I joined and ended up paying two annual memberships within 14 months time. I was so anxious to join, I did not give it enough thought.

The Year Ahead

I am not a fan of New Year’s resolutions. I never make them and back years ago when I did, I never kept them. Of course, it’s only November so making big plans for the coming year is still a little premature.

What I do know now is I want to spend more time writing and joining a writing group still really appeals to me so I will join one somewhere. I am removing the pressure, thinking positively about my decision and enjoying my NaNoWriMo journey.

Now, wasn’t that easy?

“If you obsess over whether you are making the right decision,
you are basically assuming that the universe will reward you
for one thing and punish you for another.

The universe has no fixed agenda. Once you make any decision,
it works around that decision. There is no right or wrong,
only a series of possibilities that shift with each thought,
feeling, and action that you experience.

If this sounds too mystical, refer again to the body.
Every significant vital sign- body temperature, heart rate,
oxygen consumption, hormone level, brain activity, and so on,
alters the moment you decide to do anything…
decisions are signals telling your body, mind,
and environment to move in a certain direction.”
